This is the most traditional-looking quilt I’ve made in a long time. I made only one of the blocks. The other 11 were made by members of the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild as part of a bee. I provided the light yellow (Moda Grunge Lemon Grass Yellow) and asked for bright oranges, yellows, and non-Santa reds. Orange has never been one of my favorite colors, and I used this to help overcome that. And it worked: I love the way the colors turned out! And it looks great on our faded red couch. (My block is middle row, 3rd from the left.)
I snuck a bit of modern into the pieced back. The big orange piece across the top is a mistake. Is the same fabric as the orange on the bottom left but I sewed in on backward. I didn’t feel like ripping out a 60″ seam, so it that’s just the way it is. The binding and the gold block are Moda Grunge Yellow Gold. I can’t remember the name of the orange. It’s also a Grunge. You can see some of the detail of the lovely quilting by Allison Bayer on the back.
