My sister Beth said she was repainting the guest room and sent me a paint sample and said, “Just make it go with this.” This is the largest quilt I’ve made. I had to move to the dining room table to have enough space to spread out. I did the initial egg cutting and fusing on at Quilt Camp in November. It was a Christmas present “for 2013 and many years to come,” but she didn’t get it until March. I made some pillows with some of the scraps.
This is based on the cover design of Modern Quilts Illustrated #2, which is about 24″ wide. Bethie’s quilt is for a double-sized bed (it lives on our grandparent’s old bed in her house). So I increased the size of the eggs by 10% and increased the number of eggs. The background is one piece of Bella Solids Natural. The binding is Michael Miller Terracotta Painter’s Canvas. The remaining fabric came from three fat quarter bundles: Sangria Gold Leaf Stonehenge, Saffron Edges, and Auburn Festive Fall Batiks. Machine-applique using a blanket stitch after ironing on. The beautiful quilting was done by Michelle Kitto of Urban Spools.
