I made this square to try out paper piecing. I didn’t love it. I ended up sending this square to my cousin Lillis Taylor to put into a community quilt for QUILTED (#2): US Quiltfest which began with the letter below. The final quilt was shown at a Bare Hands’ Loft Space in Birmingham, AL, in a collaborative show called “Strange Bed Fellows” in June, 2010.
Dear Friends,
Some of you may know about my recent obsession with sewing, even a handful of you may know that I tried to make a huge quilt in Wroclaw, Poland last year. Well, the quilt was six squares big…but I have higher hopes…and those hopes involve YOU!
Here’s the deal: you have one month to make a quilt square of 6 inches x 6 inches. YOU choose the theme, YOU choose the fabrics, YOU choose every aspect of the square. The two guidelines you must follow? The first, the dimensions. The second, the deadline. You must mail your square to me by March 31st, 2010 at 11:55pm. You should be able to get the square into a standard mail envelope which means you’re out only $0.44 for postage and however much money you spend on your materials. However, be creative! Cut up your loved one’s favorite item of clothing…just kidding.
Once you’ve got a square to submit, send me a message and I’ll send you my mailing address.
This event is open to all of my friends regardless of sex (for those of you who thought QUILTED should include men)! And if you’re in another country at the moment…you’re welcome to partake…though your cost will be slightly more than materials + $0.44.
Have fun and post photos of your progress! Can’t wait to see what you make!
Lillis
