Moby Dick

Moby Dick

This was a DMQG challenge to make a quilt based on a book or movie or song. I choose Moby Dick, because of course. And it hangs in my English teacher husband’s classroom now. It’s 3D! The peg leg is actually a peg (or toothpick I think).

Lucy Jo Baby Quilt

Lucy Jo Baby Quilt

Slightly non-traditional baby quilt for Lucy Jo True, born May 22, 2015, to my sister-in-law Karin and her husband Nick. I finished the top in less than 5 hours in one session. Lee Jenkins did the lovely quilting job. Pattern: Follow the Leader from Modern Quilt Illustrated #3. Colored rectangles: Mosaic by Marcia Derse for […]

Jewel Box

Jewel Box

This is a wedding quilt for my two mothers-in-law, Joanna and Barb. They were able to get married after 24 years together once Florida changed its laws in early 2015. The pattern is called “Jewel Box” by Modern Quilt Studio. The fabric is from their Color Collection line, the same line I used for the […]

I’m glad this quilt is not leaving the house. This is Michael’s new lap quilt, to replace the blanket he’s been using for 20+ years that was a gift from the mother of an ex-girlfriend. The pattern (called “Swatch”) and fabric are the work of the incredibly talented duo behind Modern Quilt Studio, Weeks Ringle […]

Orange Riot

Orange Riot

This is the most traditional-looking quilt I’ve made in a long time. I made only one of the blocks. The other 11 were made by members of the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild as part of a bee. I provided the light yellow (Moda Grunge Lemon Grass Yellow) and asked for bright oranges, yellows, and non-Santa […]

Kitty Cats

Kitty Cats

Phoebe’s Christmas quilt. The pattern is from Shiny Happy World. The fabric is mostly left-overs, formerly residing in the closet, but I did buy the super-soft Minky for the backing. Not a fun fabric to work with. Each of the squares is individually quilted (just the top fabric and the batting) before the cat is […]

Puzzle Quilt

Puzzle Quilt

This sweet baby quilt is for Michael’s cousin Delia and her partner Anngel. I made it with 11 fat quarters plus the backing and binding. So this is a very easy quilt to make with your favorite fat quarter bundle. It’s just 7.5″ squares with the puzzle curves appliqued on. For Delia and Anngel: First […]

Baby Quilt, Awaiting Assignment

Baby Quilt, Awaiting Assignment

I’m fascinated by the pattern made with identical blocks and the dark-light-ish arrangement of colors. If you wear glasses, it looks really cool with your glasses off. I bought the light green background fabric but the rest are from the scrap bag. This is a baby quilt which has no baby yet. The pattern is […]

This is not pretty

This is not pretty

We don’t have to pretend this is pretty or brilliantly executed. If you wear glasses, it’s best to view it with them off. The fabrics, which perhaps might be fine on their own, do not particularly go together. I didn’t pick them out. They are the result of a polka dot exchange at the July […]

Flowers

Flowers

I love this block! Joanne Kamper used it for her Simply Solids Bee block with DMQG this year. I like the structure of the geometric shapes of the blocks themselves and that contrast with the botanical-ness and curves of the flowers. The absence of sashing accentuates this contrast. The applique flowers were fused down and […]
